Do you need a car tracker for insurance in Kenya?

Why insurers and lenders ask for tracking, what paperwork they need and the simple habits that protect your cover.

Why insurers and lenders ask for tracking

A tracker makes a stolen vehicle far easier to find. That is why many insurers in Kenya ask for one before giving comprehensive cover on certain vehicles, and why banks, SACCOs and microfinance lenders often require it on financed vehicles. The exact rule depends on your insurer, your vehicle and your policy, so always check your policy wording.

The installation certificate

When TMC fits your tracker we issue an installation certificate. Your insurer or lender uses it as proof that an approved tracker is installed and working. Send a copy to them as soon as the work is done.

Keep the tracker active

A tracker only protects you while it is working and the subscription is paid. If your policy requires tracking, a lapsed subscription or a disconnected device could cause problems when you claim. Renew on time and report faults straight away.

Valuation and towing

Insurers also ask for valuation reports when you take cover, renew or make changes. TMC's assessment team prepares inspection and valuation reports for insurance, sale, transfer and financing, and our 24/7 towing team can help after an accident or breakdown.

Common questions

Will my insurer accept TMC tracking?

TMC tracking is accepted by insurers, banks, SACCOs and microfinance lenders that require a tracker on insured or financed vehicles.

Can I move my tracker to a new car?

Ask our team. Moving a device depends on the unit and the vehicle, and your insurer may need a new certificate.
